When the University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, envisioned a new space for its premier breast imaging center, UMC Dimensions II, the center’s director envisioned a floor that would honor its mission: the fight against breast cancer. To better fit the center’s vision of healing, the director commissioned a full renovation, including a thoughtful reimagination of the floor that incorporated the iconic pink ribbon throughout the space.

The design team at Condray Design Group brought the vision to life. While utilizing the motif of the pink ribbon throughout the space, the design emulates a soothing, comforting atmosphere that is reassuring during a potentially abysmal period. The pink ribbon is meant to symbolize the hope for the future while evoking solidarity among those who have, have had, or have the fear of having breast cancer. Condray Design Group’s embodiment of the pink ribbon creates an element of hope while the sleek design indicates you are in a state of the art facility offering patients ease of mind.

“The material choices were outstanding, seamlessly blending highly cleanable resilient flooring necessary for healthcare environments with carpeting and soft surfaces that manage acoustics and contribute to a quiet, healing environment,” said competition judge, Andrea Hanson, AIA, WELL AP, principal, architect, licensed interior designer, Dekker/Perich/Sabatini.

Design Awards Judge Alison Woolf, LEED AP associate principal, design director, Huntsman Architectural Group, was also impressed by the project. “This is an incredibly successful renovation that is warm, bright and uplifting. The theming is spot-on, and the iconic ribbon design is inspiring for patients,” said Woolf.
